Former NFL Players Eric Wright, Steve Bono and Keena Turner, Olympic Gold Medalist Brandi Chastain and Reality TV Finalist Manuel Romero to Judge Dec. 17th Competition
Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) had hosted its 19th annual holiday food drive event , capping another year of fundraising for the Second Harvest Food Bank’s annual Holiday Food and Fund Drive. The event was held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the company’s headquarters, located at 198 Champion Court in San Jose, Calif. The company’s goal was to raise $500,000 in cash donations this year.
The event featured an employee talent competition and several large Hollywood-themed sculptures built by Cypress employees using more than seven tons of canned food. The sculptures included a classic Hollywood diner, an eight-foot Oscar statue, a large grand piano, a scene featured characters from “The Simpsons,” and a stretch limousine. On hand to judge the talent competition were former NFL/Pro Bowl defensive back Eric Wright, Pro Bowl linebacker Keena Turner, quarterback Steve Bono, Olympic soccer gold medalist, Brandi Chastain, and singer-songwriter Manuel Romero, a finalist in the inaugural season of NBC’s reality television series “America’s Got Talent.”
Cypress's annual holiday food drive event drew awareness to the Second Harvest Food Bank's efforts to feed local families during the holidays, and large canned food sculptures are always part of the event. Examples of sculptures built in previous years include a NASCAR race track, a Las Vegas casino, a chess board with a remote controlled rook, a three-hole playable miniature golf course, a fire engine with siren and flashing lights, a World War II battle at sea, a twelve foot tall pirate's ship, a smoke-breathing dragon, a steam train, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Cypress was looking to claim its 19th consecutive Corporate Food Bowl Challenge trophy for donating the most per capita dollars and pounds of food during the food bank's annual Holiday Food Drive.
The Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is the single largest provider of food, information, and supportive services to hungry children, adults and elderly people in both counties. One of the nation's largest and most efficient community food banks, $0.95 of every $1 donated goes directly to food purchase, programs and services.  The Food Bank will distribute more than 45 million pounds of food to people in the community this year, distributing the food through a network of more than 315 nonprofit agencies. Second Harvest worked in concert with the food industry, government, volunteers, corporations and individuals to feed those in need.
