2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is Green Car Journal’s Green Car of the Year

USA (SANEPR.com) October 10, 2008 -- The 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is Green Car Journal’s Green Car of the Year. Apart from lesser levels of pollution this vehicle causes, the factor that helped it get ahead of the competition was improved mileage of 30 percent over all other V8’s.

The area in which this model scored highest was in city conditions, where most of the driving is done. In these conditions, its mileage improved to no lesser than 50 percent over that of its competitors, who included Malibu; Mazda Tribute; Saturn Aura and Nissan Altima. These five hybrid models were zeroed in after an elimination round, in which there were 12 models.

The jury that gave this award was made up of some well-known names from the industry and environment. These included Carroll Shelby, Jay Leno, Carl Pope (Sierra Club); Christopher Flavin (Worldwatch Institute); Jonathan Lash (World Resources Institute), and Jean-Michel Cousteau (Ocean Futures Society).

The jury also considered other factors while handing this award. These were how recently this technology was available with the manufacturer, the number of these vehicles produced, and the extent to which these innovative environmentally-focused technologies could pave the way for further improvement and implementation in other forthcoming vehicles from the company.
