2009 Pennsylvania Stormwater Management Symposium - the focus of the Symposium is "Bailing Out Stormwater". The Symposium will on October 14 - 15, 2009 and the Municipal Workshop is being held on October 14, 2009, both of the events are being held at Villanova.

Stormwater Management Symposium

The purpose of the symposium is to advance the knowledge and understanding of sustainable stormwater management for those dealing in all aspects of planning, design, implementation and regulatory compliance. A workshop for non-engineers will be held in conjunction with the symposium. This is the seventh symposium on stormwater issues that has been held at Villanova. This event will bringing Together: Engineers, Planners, Water Resource Professionals, Regional, State and Local Government Representatives, Land Development Professionals, and Watershed and Conservation Groups.

Symposium Details: This year we have the honor of being addressed by John Hines, Deputy Secretary of Water Management, and Glenn Rider, Director of the Bureau of Watershed management as well as many notable speakers from both the private and the public sector. Of course the VUSP and TVSSI researchers will present their latest results! Wednesday we focus on concurrent technical sessions with over 25 podium presentations on all phases of stormwater management. The topics and speakers are better than ever and we look forward to hearing what they have to say. For lunch we will be joined by the municipal attendees, and we will then launch into another technical podium session. Following on is the poster session, and reception. For Thursday we have a star studded lineup of speakers! We start with a talk by Professor Traver on Green Infrastructure, and then hear from Glenn Rider, Director of the Bureau of Watershed Management, PaDEP on the many new stormwater initiatives in Pennsylvania. Next we hear from the Philadelphia Water Department Office of Watersheds, Michael Ports from Bergmann Associates, Ed White the NRCS State Soil Scientist, and Jennifer Kehler on the Act 167 Program. Finally for those who enjoy our yearly tours, we are going to again offer several options with Lunch. We are including many breaks to allow you to interact with the posters, the vendors, and your colleagues.

The symposium proceedings will be published over the internet, and Lunch will be provided on Wednesday the 14th, and an informal reception will be held following the conclusion of sessions that day.

Municipal Workshop

This 1-day workshop will present practical information and strategies for dealing with stormwater runoff in your municipality. We start with stormwater fundamentals, look at inspection and infiltration testing, and end with runoff controls and maintenance. You will be joining the main symposium for both lunch and to hear John Hines, Deputy Secretary for Water Management, PaDEP speak on stormwater and watershed issues. Following a tour of the Villanova Urban Stormwater Management BMP Research and Demonstration Park, you will rejoin the main symposium for a poster session and reception. This one-day workshop is for municipal elected and appointed officials, and their staff and planners. Lunch and the reception is included in the registration fee.
