Industry Veteran Saar Gillai to Draw on 20-Plus Years of Experience in Growing Businesses

India (SANEPR.com) October 7, 2008 -- 3Com Corporation (NASDAQ: COMS) today announced that Saar Gillai has joined the company as its new Senior Vice President of Worldwide Products and Solutions. Gillai brings more than 20 years of networking experience to 3Com, including management positions with companies such as Cisco Systems Inc., Newbridge Networks and Tropos Networks. Gillai will report to 3Com President and Chief Operating Officer Ron Sege.

As head of worldwide products and solutions, Gillai will be responsible for defining the company’s long-term vision for product lines and solutions, including roadmap, pricing and positioning, and requirements. He will work closely with the company’s research and development (R&D) and sales teams to develop innovative ways to help customers stretch their networking budgets and ‘do more with less.’

Prior to joining 3Com, Gillai was Senior Vice President of Product Development and Operations for Enfora, a leading global supplier of intelligent wireless networking solutions. He was responsible for scaling development activities and operational processes, as well as guiding Enfora’s technology direction to support global expansion. Under Gillai’s leadership, Enfora instituted operational discipline to help grow the business profitably and improve its market share. He joined Enfora from Tropos Networks where was Vice President of Engineering and Product Management.



Gillai also spent seven years at Cisco in a variety of leadership positions, including Vice President of Engineering for the Wireless Networking Business Unit. He played a key role in building Cisco's enterprise WLAN product line to the number-one position in the market as it developed and shipped more than $1.5 billion in products during his tenure. Gillai also held key management positions in product development for the Desktop Switching Business Unit and the Multiservice Switching Business Unit, where he worked closely with major service providers on next-generation network architectures. He previously worked at Newbridge Networks as well as several start-up companies.



Corporate Governance

3Com's Compensation Committee granted Mr. Gillai options to purchase 500,000 shares of 3Com's common stock, and 250,000 shares of restricted common stock, under NASDAQ's "inducement" exception. Per company policy, these grants are made, and the exercise price of the stock options will be determined, on the fifth trading day of the month following the month in which Mr. Gillai commences employment with 3Com. The options have a term of seven years, vest in equal annual installments over four years, and were granted under a Stand Alone Stock Option Agreement with Mr. Gillai. The restricted stock vests in equal annual installments over three years and was granted under Stand Alone Restricted Stock Agreement with Mr. Gillai.
