NIANTIC, CONN., USA (SANEPR.com) October 29, 2008 -- Temperatures are dropping and that means it’s time for the 63rd annual Jack Frost Bazaar at Niantic Community Church. This year, in addition to Attic Treasures, books and baked goods, the Cookie Cottage, handmade items and holiday decorations, there will be an Alternative Marketplace bringing new meaning to the words “holiday shopping.”
The Alternative Marketplace presents a unique opportunity to purchase a gift that keeps on giving, or to gather information about organizations like Heifer International, Habitat for Humanity, Haitian Scholarship Fund and others.
“People can purchase handmade and Fair Trade items from third world countries that offer a connection with artisans from indigenous groups around the world, while providing wages, social and economic assistance,” said Outreach Committee member Anne Davis.
Not only, are buyers getting beautiful hand made artisan gifts, they are supporting a purposeful cause. The purchase of Fair Trade products like organic coffees and chocolate, help those that grow the crops to build a better future for themselves and their communities.
The Jack Frost Bazaar offers a chance to come together as a community, to find antique treasures, crafts, home made goodies, jewelry, a book or two, visit the kids toy tent or bid on something from the silent auction. Share a meal at the turkey luncheon from 11:00-1:00. Why just buy a gift when you can buy a gift AND make a difference? The Jack Frost Bazaar is a one stop shop for beginning a festive holiday season, while supporting both local and worldwide efforts.
“It’s a great ongoing tradition of the church. A great way to get some good bargains and enjoy a delicious lunch to kick off the holiday season,” said bazaar co-chair, Jen Datum.
The JFB is being held Saturday Nov. 8 from 9:30-2:00 and the Alternative Marketplace continues on Dec. 7 and 14 from 10:00-11:00 at Niantic Community Church, 170 Pennsylvania Avenue, Niantic, Conn. (860) 739-6208. www.nianticcommunitychurch.org
