Akhbarna Conferred Man of the Year Award-2010 to Dr. Naseer Homoud

In a dazzling addition to his previous endeavors for his humanity works, Dr. Naseer Homoud, the External Relations Advisor of Arab Non Violence Society and Honorary Member of Arab Youth Media Forum was conferred with Man of the Year Award-2010 of Jordan by Akhbarna- a leading electronic news channel in Amman, Jordan under high patronage of Mr. Faisal Al Fayez, Speaker of the Jordanian Lower House & Former Prime Minister of Jordan. The award ceremony held at Hotel Everest in Amman. Several high level dignitaries including several ministers including Mr. Mazen Al- Saket, Minister of Interiors; Mr. Abdullah Abu Rumman, Information minister; Minister of Culture Mr. Jeryes Samawi and other dignitaries including the president of the Jordan Artists Association Mr. Hussein Khatib and the Head of the Jordanian Press Association (JPA) Mr. Tareq Al Momani were attendees of the ceremony.

Earlier on March 6, 2011 Akhbarna declared results for this prestigious Man of the Year Award-2010. The nomination to award was held by voting on internet and by mobile text messages. Dr. Homoud bagged a total of 90,297 votes defeating his nearest rival Mr. Abdul Hameed Shoman, Chairman of Arab Bank by a huge brim of 4,636 votes. The voting was concluded on 28th of February and the results were declared on March 1, 2011 by Akhbarna. It was also then announced that under different categories a total of 720,000 people participated in polling and Dr. Homoud received the highest votes in Man of the Year Award category.

The news agency in a statement mentioned that this title is seldom awarded and only after a very carefully examination, as the receivers are leaders of the century, there works concentrated in a year is reflecting decades of actions and achievements with positive influence over peoples and countries. The Award came as recognition of Dr. Homoud’s many achievements and exceptional vision and support which has paved the way for several milestones in philanthropy. Dr. Homoud is a person who really deserved this award. His works are exemplary and was the best choice for us indeed and people elected him in the polls conducted by us, said the statement.

Expressing his gratitude for this award Dr. Homoud reaffirmed his commitment to work for humanity, he added “I enjoy the moment with all happiness from core of my heart when i see smile on face of even one child; i don’t know why it is, but that smile is really a catalyst for me and it gives me more energy to work for them”. Reacting to the award he said “I do not view it as recognition of my personal accomplishments rather as an affirmation of the work which we are doing for ultimate benefit of mankind. He further went on to say “this award is not simply about my work rather it is to be shared with everyone who strives for an egalitarian society”.

Dr. Naseer Homoud is a renowned and well known philanthropist of the Jordan being known across the world for his humanitarian, charitable and social activities apart from his utmost support for sports. Widely acclaimed for his activities and social works Dr. Homoud has achieved several accomplishments in his life in acknowledgement of his work. The present award is the 3rd prestigious award being conferred to him in series of 3 consequent years. In 2008, he received award for man of the year in Jordan and Most Influential Person of the year award in 2009. He is also known for his commitment and support towards sports. Given this background Dr. Homoud also serves as Honorary President of Al- Hussein Club.

Dr. Homoud also expressed his gratitude for His Majesty King Abdulla on this occasion. Expressing his gratitude for His Majesty Dr. Homoud said “starting with policy and ending with sports, you have been the first and the best, you have been and will always be inspiring us to make the change in our great nation and to develop it to be the best country ever, you have been showering us with peace, prosperity, safety and warmth and we thank you for this- from core of our hearts”.

His work for women empowerment, against racial discrimination, elimination of poverty and for securing basic amenities for hunger and undernourished people are exemplary in itself.
