Author Nikki Oldaker plans visit to Primary state for Tilden Book Signing

USA. (SANEPR.com) November 21, 2007 -- Clinton also would be the oldest Democrat in any open White House race since Samuel Tilden, who was 62 in 1876.

Author Nikki Oldaker is planning a visit to the New Hampshire primary vote battle ground to personally meet voters and to do a book signing for "Samuel Tilden, the Real 19th President." Just yesterday she learned from "another news story" that Hillary Clinton and Tilden and Truman have more than just being great democrats in common. At age 61 next year, Hillary Clinton would be the oldest Democratic presidential nominee since Harry Truman, who was 63 in 1948. Clinton also would be the oldest Democrat in any open White House race since Samuel Tilden, who was 62 in 1876. Tilden differs from the other two because he did not believe in high taxes.

Samuel Jones Tilden born February 9, 1814 was the Democratic candidate for the U.S. presidency in the disputed election of 1876, the most controversial American election of the 19th century. A political reformer, he was a Bourbon Democrat who worked closely with the New York City business community, led the fight against the corruption of Tammany Hall, and fought to keep taxes low.

Of Tilden's fortune (estimated at $6,000,000) approximately $4,000,000 was bequeathed for the establishment and maintenance of a free public library and reading-room in the City of New York. The Tilden Trust was combined with the Astor and Lenox libraries to found the New York Public Library, whose building bears his name on its front entrance.
