Barroso invites European citizens to tellBarroso.eu

(SANEPR.com) April 3, 2009 -- The Centre for European Studies, with the endorsement of Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, is pioneering an interactive, non-partisan, web-based survey: www.tellBarroso.eu
This poll has been officially launched today, the 30th of March 2009, in six official languages of the EU and will be active during the whole month of April.
The survey will seek to engage European citizens with the theme: “How can the EU improve your life?”
The tellBarroso.eu poll will facilitate high level sophisticated research which will produce quantitative and qualitative results from Europeans of all walks of life. These results will be open, public, transparent and released on the same website as soon as the poll is completed.
Participants will name issues and comment on issues which matter to them.Subsequently, participants will be given the opportunity to see what issues previous participants have specified and to evaluate these issues according to their own priorities. Lastly, the survey allows the participants to add any additional issues triggered in their minds by the exercise.
The data will be valuable because it will telescope both individual’s queries and group queries in quantifiable cross-sections of society and between EU Member States. Afterwards,participants will be eligible to personally meet Barroso in Brussels where they will present the findings of the poll to the public together with him in May of 2009.
Taking into account the low voter mobility predictions ahead of the European elections, this type of initiative will be a cornerstone in the political efforts of EU leaders and EU institutions to engage citizens by increasing their interest and stakes in the European Union.
This new initiative is CES’ first web-based poll. It uses modern 2.0 web technology to reach out to Europeans and put them back in the core of the European debate, an effort which also includes the CES Facebook Forum and Blog.
This proposal will inaugurate a series of multiple, new, non-partisan initiatives led by CES towards its goal of bridging the gap between EU politics and European citizens.
