Behavioral Health Management, a Healthcare Management Consulting Firm, Releases White Paper

St Louis, MO, January 25, 2010 -- Behavioral Health Management, P.C., has recently released a whitepaper entitled ‘Mental Health Parity Preparedness,’ touting the new Mental Health Parity Bill as an opportunity for managed care as well as provider organizations. The paper is an informative overview of The Wellstone-Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, also known a bit more simply as the Mental Health Parity Act was passed as an attachment to TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) in October of 2008. The new federal parity law requires group health plans to cover treatment for mental illness on the same terms and conditions as all other illnesses. This new parity act provides for equity with respect to numerical limits on inpatient and outpatient services, and will also provide equity in respect to financial limitations.

The release of the BHM Parity Paper comes at a critical time as the new parity law took effect on Oct. 3, 2009. The details will be released shortly and should have both payers and providers gearing up to fully implement changes and take stock of what impact it will have on their business going into the new year. Parity will continue to be one of the most impactful issues in healthcare management well into the future.
