The electricity capacity has been multiplied by four in 2010 and 2011, increasing from 140 MW in 2009 to 530 MW in 2011, with the commissioning of the 120 MW Imboulou hydroelectric plant and the 300 MW Djeno gas-fired power plant. Overall, Africa boosted world-wide consumption of crude oil. Significant increase in Nigerian crude oil production offset falls in Algeria, Iraq and Venezuela. South-Africa increased its coal trade surplus by 4.5% during the year, while Algerian natural gas output fell another 12%. Africa also registered a 6% increase in power generation.
