A helpful strategy to enhance your memory of information is to envision the concepts that you want to be able to commit to memory and recall. If you are learning information from a textbook, photographs and charts can be great visible cue to help in committing the information to memory. You can also sketch your own charts or graphs to help aid in the memory process.

Regularly challenging your brain can help you develop your memory. Learning new, complex tasks such as a foreign language or how to play a musical instrument will help your brain stay active. remember the old saying "Use it or lose it?" The same thing's true for your brain!

Tests have shown that too much stress can severely impair memory functions. Keep your stress levels under control when trying to improve your memory.

The more difficult a piece of information is, the more hard it is for you to hold on to. So you must break this in to smaller pieces of information. By breaking complex things to smaller pieces and assembling them in your mind will not only help enhance your memory, but it makes a road map for you to recall the things you have saved in your memory.

When trying to commit information into your long-term memory, ensure you are in a location with zero distractions. It requires real attention to move information from short-term to long-term memory, and a distracting setting may make the job nearly impossible. Steer clear of areas where there are televisions, radios, crowds or lots of visual stimuli.

If you're seeing that your memory is either starting to decline or just not being as strong as it used to be, consider taking some of the suggestions described in this editorial. You may be amazed at how much better your memory can rapidly become once you start working on it on a daily basis.
