USA (SANEPR.com) July 22, 2009 -- Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced that Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. has selected the TrueTouch™ solution from Cypress to implement the touchscreen in the new I8910 mobile phone. The I8910, also known as the OMNIAHD, lets users “Touch the HD Brilliance” of the world’s first phone with 720P high-definition video recording and super vivid 3.7” AMOLED display.

Samsung selected the TrueTouch solution based on its fast response time, gesture support and character recognition capabilities that enable the I8910’s outstanding multimedia player and fast internet browsing.

In addition to the TrueTouch touchscreen, the I8910 employs a Cypress MoBL® dual-port as an interconnect between the application and baseband processors, increasing multimedia and computing performance and lowering system power in the new phone.

“The I8910 is a prime example of the exceptional value that Cypress adds to world-class handsets,” said Christopher Seams, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Cypress. “From TrueTouch touchscreens and CapSense® button replacement to MoBL interconnects and West Bridge® controllers, Cypress solutions help manufacturers differentiate their offerings with improved functions, performance and style.”

According to Samsung, Cypress’s TrueTouch and MoBL dual-port solutions gave the company the ability to go beyond the competition with new features and functions that customers are excited to use.

About TrueTouch
The PSoC®-based TrueTouch solution employs proven Cypress capacitive sensing technology that has replaced over 3.5B mechanical buttons. TrueTouch products are targeted at consumer applications that require very low power, superior noise immunity, and tiny package options. TrueTouch programmability allows customers to build custom solutions that meet unique user interface requirements, including gesture-based functions. TrueTouch works with various industrial materials such as glass and plastics, giving customers maximum flexibility to create sleek industrial designs. It also operates flawlessly in noisy environments with interference from RF and LCD noise sources.

Cypress's TrueTouch touchscreen solution is based on projected capacitive touchscreen technology, offering numerous benefits over touchscreens based on resistive technology. These advantages include optical clarity, durability, reliability and cost-effective implementation of multi-touch features. The TrueTouch family is the industry's broadest touchscreen offering, including single-touch, multi-touch gesture, and multi-touch all-point solutions (the ability to track up to 10 simultaneous touches).

Because of the flexible and programmable TrueTouch architecture, customers can also choose to work with a wide variety of touchscreen vendors and/or LCD module vendors to create their designs. Other touchscreen solutions are not programmable and require designers to implement a fixed solution with limited materials choices. The TrueTouch solution also enables designers to integrate additional functions such as driving LEDs, backlight control and I/O expansion. These functions, in conjunction with flexible communication options (I2C and SPI), allow for unparalleled system integration for touchscreen systems. Additional information about the TrueTouch solution is available at www.cypress.com/go/TrueTouch.

About the MoBL Dual-Port Interconnect Family
Today's mobile handsets include advanced features such as the ability to record video, play music, send multimedia messages and deliver 3D games. These handsets also face the challenge of newer faster wireless standards and increased OS functionalities. Many manufacturers have adopted a multi-processor system architecture to address the increased processing demands created by these functions. Members of the MoBL dual-port interconnect family are designed with two independent SRAM interfaces to allow processors to exchange data efficiently, enabling the baseband and application subsystems to evolve independent of each other. Each subsystem can be self-contained with minimal software design effort for interprocessor communication.
