Double Success for Education Experts

UK (SANEPR.com) September 16, 2008 -- A Cumbria law firm is celebrating a double success after securing two national education sector contracts.

Burnetts Solicitors in Carlisle has been awarded contracts to supply legal services to both the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and Preston College. The contracts were won after a competitive tender process which lasted nearly four months.

John Morris is Burnetts’ Senior Partner and heads the firm’s education team. He said, “We have been competing against huge national firms to secure these contracts so our success is a real acknowledgement of the strength of our expertise and our nationally recognised specialism in education law. Our university and college clients are extremely important to us and we look after them very well. Opportunities like these don’t come up often so I’m delighted we are celebrating a double win.”

More than one fifth of the 120 people employed at Burnetts work in the education law sector.

Burnetts has acted for UCLan since 1995 advising on employment law, commercial contracts and intellectual property as well as property deals like the sale of campuses to the University of Cumbria. The firm has given ad hoc advice to Preston College: this new contract will see Burnetts working regularly with the College and guiding them through a £90 million campus re-development. The new contracts will run for three years from 1st August, 2008.

Burnetts ranks fourth in the national league table of legal advisers to the further education sector which is published by Caritas Data for their annual Further Education Financial Yearbook.
