(SANEPR.com) April 2, 2008 -- Dr. Gregg D. Jacobs, an Insomnia Specialist at the Sleep Disorders Center at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and a leading authority on the treatment of insomnia will be a guest on the radio talk show Your Mental Health www.blogtalkradio.com/yourmentalhealth on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 6 PM EST. The show is aired live and callers are invited to call in to ask Dr. Jacobs questions pertaining to insomnia and other sleep disorders. The listener call in number for the show is (347) 838-9159.

As a Senior Scientist at Harvard's Mind/Body Medical Institute and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, where he spent almost 20 years treating and researching insomnia, he developed the first drug-free program for insomnia proven to be more effective than sleeping pills. His insomnia research at Harvard Medical School was funded by the National Institutes of Health and published in journals such as the Archives of Internal Medicine. He has taught his insomnia program to major HMOs such as Kaiser Permanente and major corporations such as Reebok, Fidelity, and John Hancock. Dr. Jacobs is also the author of Say Good Night to Insomnia (New York: Henry Holt) and is also the creator of a revolutionary program for insomnia sufferers called CBT For Insomnia www.cbtforinsomnia.com , an online treatment program using cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) that is based on 20 years of extensive research and clinical practice at Harvard Medical School and the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center involving over ten thousand insomnia patients. His work on insomnia has been featured extensively in the media including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Good Morning America, the Today Show, Time magazine, Forbes, and The Boston Globe. He has been described by the Wall Street Journal as a “pioneer in the use of cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia”.

Insomnia is estimated to affect more than half of the U.S. adult population. Insomnia can take many different forms: difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, waking up too early, or waking up feeling unrefreshed. In a survey by the National Sleep Foundation, 58% of adults reported having insomnia at least a few nights a week. And the vast majority of those surveyed agreed that sleep loss can have a major impact on their lives:

•93% agreed that sleep loss can impair work performance
•92% felt that sleep loss can increase one’s risk of injuries
•90% agreed that not getting enough sleep makes it difficult to get along with others
•86% believed that sleep deficits can lead to health problems

Join Dr. Gregg Jacobs LIVE at 6 PM EST on www.blogtalkradio.com/yourmentalhealth to find out more about the causes and cures of insomnia without the use of medications.
