Dallas, TX, USA(SANEPR.com) February 12, 2008 -- Emmy award-winning broadcaster, motivational speaker and the author of Starring in Your Own Life (ISBN-13978-0-7432-1811-50 Simon & Schuster), Lena Nozizwe will tell students why she loves being the original Ugly Betty when she speaks on Valentine’s Day at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, TX.
Nozizwe's life reads more like an action adventure than a romance novel. She almost died at birth in a tiny village in Malawi, Africa. Her family came to the United States so that her mother, Dr. Alice Princess Msumba Siwundhla, could be featured on the pioneering reality show, This Is Your Life.
Nozizwe grew up to broadcast to millions within the global village as an award-wining journalist. That's in spite of critics who told her she was too ugly to follow her dreams.
"I am the original Ugly Betty," says Nozizwe. "Having all those haters call me ugly was the worst thing that could have ever happened to me. It was the best thing that could have ever happened to me."
Nozizwe says while the taunts provoked tears, they also promoted resiliency, self-reliance and sensitivity to others.
She shares her message in her book, which can be purchased at http://www.nozizwe.com/buythebook.html. It’s repeated in her upcoming documentary Hut to Hollywood, which you can see here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbrFW-hlQak
