Bangalore: With a view of providing an essential foundation for students to prepare systematically for and be successful in competitive exams like IIT-JEE, AIEEE, AIPMT, CET, Olympiads etc., BASE the premier educational training organization providing quality training in Karnataka has launched a new program Foundation-SnT
Foundation-SnT is a 2 year value add Program for students of Class IX. It complements the regular studies of the students by imparting additional inputs in core subjects. The Program inculcates analytical thinking and brings home the importance of innovation in problem solving.

“Whether the student wishes to pursue B.Tech, at an IIT or NIT or other engineering colleges or wishes to study medicine or pursue pure sciences; what is important is to build a strong foundation - Now! So, while board exams are important, students also need to start working for the future career at an early stage” said Mr. Vallish N. Herur, Director, BASE.

Subjects taught in Foundation-SnT include Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Mental Abilities. The course on Mental Abilities helps in improving thinking agility and enhances learning capability in other subjects. In addition, relevant techniques from Vedic mathematics and speed mathematics are introduced. The curriculum has been designed considering the syllabi of Karnataka State Board, ICSE and CBSE.

Printed courseware is provided for all subjects that covers related topics along with adequate worked examples and practice exercises. For all the exercises in the modules and tests that are conducted, audio-visual solutions are provided through the BASE website. The student can refer to these to understand the approach in answering questions. Clarifications for doubts are enabled through an electronic help desk.

Each classroom session by highly trained faculty members is planned to be interactive and is supported by multimedia presentations. The accent is on understanding of subjects, appreciating the finer aspects and effective problem solving. The training sessions are conveniently scheduled during summer vacation and later when the schools reopen, on weekdays/weekends. The total interaction time during the 2-year Programme is 360 hours.

Foundation-SnT is aligned to the board curriculum. In fact, student batches will be formed based on central or state boards. This way, students can perform better in school and board examinations. Regular tests will be conducted to prepare the students for excellence in school curriculum as well as competitive exams. Through a unique user ID and password, parents can check the progress of their children at the programme.

Admission to the programme is based on the student’s performance in VIII Standard midterm/ last semester on a first come- first served basis. The programme is available at all the BASE centres namely Basavanagudi, Rajajinagar, Jeevanbhimanagar, Yelahanka, Malleshwaram, Marathahalli, Mysore, Udupi, Hubli, Belgaum, Tumkur, Bijapur and Bidar and also in associated schools. BASE students have performed exceptionally well in the various national and state level competitive examinations in the academic year 2009. 88 per cent of the BASE students have scored either distinction or First class in the II PUC Board examination. 72 BASE students have qualified for IIT-JEE, 44 of them figure in the top 100 in AIEEE national list including 6 in top 10 in state level. 21 BASE students feature in top 100 in CET and 5 in top 10 in the II PU Board examination.

About BASE
BASE started functioning in the year 1991 from its present premises in Basavanagudi in Bangalore. It was started by Dr. H.S.Nagaraja with the intention of increasing the number of students from Karnataka gaining entrance into IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and NITs (National Institute of Technology). From a modest strength of 4 faculty members and 3 students, BASE has now grown to include 150 teaching faculty and multiple programmes for students from class 5 to II PU/Class12 in multiple centres spread over Karnataka.
BASE trains students to get through the preliminary examinations of world renowned centres of learning such as the IITs of India. BASE has consistently performed since its inception both in terms of growth and an astounding share in the number of BASE students gaining entrance into the IITs and NITs.
It is a proud fact that each year, the number of BASE students qualifying to the IITs is more than that of all other institutions in Karnataka put together.
