Toronto, ON - GAO Tek Inc. has released a series of small form factor pluggable optical transceivers (XFP), which are fully compatible with Extreme’s original products. XFP modules support 10 Gigabit Ethernet IEEE standard interfaces as 10GBASE-LR, 10GBASE-ER and10GBASE-SR.
Since the introduction of 10 Gigabit Ethernet, there has been a steady increase in enterprise and service provider networks as more and more bandwidth applications are deployed. 10 Gigabit Ethernet is the natural migration path for forward-thinking enterprise and service provider architects.
These XFP modules can be used in the Extreme Summit X450a and X450e series switches, as well as the BlackDiamond 10G4Xa I/O module for the BlackDiamond 8800 series switches. XFP modules are 10-gigabit modules that convert serial electrical signals to external, serial, optical signals. XFP modules can be inserted into or removed from an Extreme Network’s switch or I/O module without powering off the system. All Extreme Networks XFP modules comply with IEEE 802.3ae standards and with the latest XFP multi-source agreement (MSA) Rev 4.5.
