In Victoria Island, Lagos on the 15th of December, 2011. The bank commenced the savings promotion on June 1st, 2011 with an objective to encourage the savings culture amongst existing customers and to also attract potential customers to the bank by providing incentives to save.
Draws had been held in Enugu, Abuja, Ibadan, Port Harcourt and Kano and it was on this back drop that the final lap of the promo that was described as a road by the Group M D/CEO of Skye Bank, Mr. Kehinde Durosinmi Etti was brought to the centre of excellence, Lagos. Present at the occasion were the 1st lady of Lagos state, Dame Abimbola Fashola, the chairman of Skye Bank, Mrs. Morenikeji Onasanya, the Group M D/ CEO of Skye Bank, Mr Kehinde Durosinmi Etti, Executive Director, Lagos/ South West region, Mr Gbenga Ademulegun, Executive Director South-South Region/ Retail Banking, Mrs Ibiye Ekong amongst other top management executives of the bank and other dignitaries.
Prizes up for grabs included 15 air conditioning systems, 15 i phones, 10 generators, 15 LCD plasma TVs, 1 million naira for one person, a Toyota Corolla also for one person and the ultimate prize being a Prado Jeep for one lucky winner to be selected from all participating regions. In a short address given by Mr Durosinmi Etti, he reiterated the objectives of the promo stating that it was an avenue to encourage savings and also increase awareness about Skye bank. He ended by saying "may the lucky person win".
And it was a game of luck indeed as Mrs Ibiye Ekong, the Executive Director South-South/ Retail Banking explained that the raffle would be done automatically by a computer designed specifically for that purpose. She added that the computer does this in three simple processes which includes starting, shuffling and stoping. The draws for the air conditioners, LCD TVs, i phones and generators were done by some of Skye bank's esteemed customers and winners emerged from different branches of the bank scattered all over Lagos. For some of the winners who could not make it to Harbour Point, calls were placed to them to congratulate them and to also establish that the promo was not a hoax.
Worthy of note was the winner of the one million naira, Akinrinmade Ibilola, an I T administrator who had to make herself available to personally receive her cheque for one million after being persuaded by a friend. She had been called by ace comedian Tee-A who compeered the event to inform her that she was one of the winners in the Skye Bank Savers promo after the draws for the one million naira revealed her name on the big screen. She could not contain her joy and shock as she was presented with the cheque of one million naira by Mr Kehinde Durosinmi Etti.
A rainbow account holder, 8 years old Oyegbami Anyaoluwa Cynthia emerged the winner of the brand new Toyota Corolla car. Rainbow account is a type of account tailored to cater for youngsters who were not yet eligible to hold a real account. The father of little Cynthia who had opened the account for his daughter was elated when he received the call that his daughter's account with Skye bank has won a brand new car for the family. The draw for the ‘big one', a brand new Prado Jeep was performed by the 1st lady of Lagos, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola and a customer from Abuja, Sarah Chinyere Iwuchukwu emerged the winner of the grande prize.
