Henrico Doctors' Hospital Becomes First in Central Virginia To Receive Patient Data

Richmond, VA - Henrico Doctors' Hospital became the first hospital in Central Virginia to begin receiving medical information via wireless transmissions from Goochland County Fire-Rescue Department on July 14, 2010.

This new system allows us to have the pertinent information on the patient before they even hit the door," said Dr. Tamara Barnes, Director of Emergency Services. "This is important when you are in a situation where every minute counts."

Ambulances in Goochland have been equipped with new technology that basically turns them into a WiFi Hot Spot. The EMS providers fill out vital information on laptops and then send that information to the Nurses Station at the Emergency Room at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. Other fire departments and rescue squads in Henrico County will be coming on board in August.

"Goochland County Fire-Rescue Department is excited that Henrico Doctors' Hospital has the ability to receive our patient's medical records electronically. In addition, this system will allow our EMS units to continue to provide 12 lead EKGs to the Emergency Department prior to ambulance arriving" said Deputy Chief Eddie Ferguson, Goochland Fire-Rescue Department.
