CEO of Ferguson Enterprises, Inc., and Detroiter Bobby Ferguson announced the formation of three community initiatives to address our city’s most at-risk populations: our youth and our senior citizens.
“The “By His Grace” Thanksgiving Event, Lifting through Gifting, and the Prisoner Re-entry pilot program will now be completely funded and totally supported by my father’s Homer Ferguson Foundation,” proclaimed Bobby Ferguson.
Youth Supporting Elderly
The By His Grace Thanksgiving Dinner provides over 1500 meals to families in the Detroit community. A volunteer base of 150 young men and women lend their support by preparing meals, packaging and then delivering to the less fortunate. Bobby Ferguson went on to explain that, “This event provides an opportunity for Detroit youth to share in volunteerism and give back to the community.”
Lifting Through Gifting
Through the Homer Ferguson Foundation, this program adopts a Detroit elementary school and 25 children, from low-income families to receive coats and presents during the Christmas holiday season. And, should the any child have siblings, those children are also afforded the opportunity to receive a present.
The Prisoner Re-Entry Program
The Foundation is piloting a program to assist non-violent offenders with the opportunity to receive training in the construction trades. This program will give the ex-offenders the ability to return to the community with marketable and viable skills to compete and establish themselves as productive employees. The Foundation completes its obligation to the program’s participants with job placement options at the end of their training.
