A busty Vidya Balan dancing to Ooh la la in The Dirty Picture brought back memories of south Indian actress’s lusty moves on catchy tunes in the 1980s.

Vidya’s revolutionary change from the girl-next-door to a sexy vamp has surely surprised to everyone. But, it won’t be strange that a majority of Indian men are more fascinated by the bad girl.

There was a time before the internet brought porn into the bed rooms. Indian men were used to watch starlets heaving bosoms and moaning suggestively in south Indian films of the 1980s as well as English movies, which used to air on TV in the midnight.

Chemical analyst Sameer Sawant says, “I remember watching late-night movies starring Silk Smitha, Disco Shanti, Polyester Padmini and Nylon Nalini on mute to ensure my parents

Entire male audiences were gone made on to films starring the ‘dancing girls of the 1980s’. It didn’t matter much for them weather they understood the language.

“These voluptuous women were cast in movies just for titillation. Their clothes were provocative and the camera lingered on their curves and busty looks,”Dirty girl Vidya says.

Balan plays the role of Silk Smitha- one of the first south Indian actresses to gain popularity for being a brave to cutting across the barriers of region and language. In ‘The Dirty Picture’ Vidya’s character focused more on sexuality and much to the delight of male audiences. And why it shouldn’t be, asks director of movie Milan Luthria. “Lust is part of our lives and nature. So why shy away from it?”.
