Jungle Boots: they were being advertised on London Underground so somebody made them

"Veganline.com does not normally advertise", said John Robertson, the founder, "but we are happy to take advantage".

The boots follow a general trend towards camouflage gear and environmentally gentler, more ethical products that was also seen at London Fashion Week earlier in the month. They are made by a UK company known for its Solovair boots, made in fair employment conditions. The factory is one of a handful of surving UK shoe makers.

The boots have already sold in Australia, Poland, and London itself.

"There's a lot about ethical footwear in the press", says John, "but a lot of what gets called ethical is made in by Chinese labour out of leather. It takes more acres of land to feed a meat eater and provide leather than it does to feed and clothe a vegan, and over-farming is a major cause of deforestation. "

The Vegan Society has made the same point in it's downloadable report "Eating the Earth", which it will promote on World Vegan Day, November the 1st, and the United Nations has provided exaustive evidence in its report "Livestock's Long Shadow".
