Mettler Toledo Garvens Launches XS2 Pharma Checkweigher in India for High Product Weighing Accuracy

Mumbai, 6th September 2011: Mettler Toledo Garvens announced the launching of the latest version of XS2 Pharma Checkweigher in India. The new XS2 Pharma Checkweigher has been designed with the specific needs of pharmaceutical brands in mind. The system offers precise product guidance and handling throughout the transfer process for increased weighing accuracy and exact product orientation. With the XS2 Pharma, Mettler Toledo Garvens have created a Checkweigher that offers far more than weight control capability. Units are weighed with the utmost precision, handled with maximum care, and moved through the line at high conveyor speeds. Mettler-Toledo’s product inspection portfolio, which also includes x-ray and metal detection, has been strengthened further by this induction of Checkweigher in the portfolio.

Its highly precise product transfer unit (top and bottom belt) offers optimum product guidance for pharmaceutical goods of various sizes, ranging from the smallest up to products that weigh 600g. Products are processed with high stability thanks to the precise parallel position of top and bottom conveyors in the transfer unit. The top and bottom belt can be easily adjusted to take over the products from the previous packaging machine. Perfectly synchronised conveyor motors avoid any damage or deformation caused by unequal pressure during product gripping. Further, the XS2 Pharma's refined weighing and outfeed conveyors feature small rollers to ensure smooth passage for even the most delicate packages.

Aside from product handling benefits, the XS2 Pharma also offers highly accurate weight control due to a new weighcell with advanced filter technology. The very robust design is reflected by the high ingress protection degree IP69k which is “standard” for this weighcell. Also higher resolution thanks to smaller divisions increases better opportunities for the Weights and Measures approval process. The weighcell features rounded surfaces that ensure best possible protection against adhesion or accumulation of any fine dust particles. All aspects of the XS2 Pharma are designed to be easy and quick to clean. The extremely quiet drive system is designed to have minimal influence on the weighing results thus giving maximum measurement accuracy even at high throughput.

The XS2 Pharma's open flap and askew package detection features guarantee consistency on the packaging line and protect downstream packaging machines. Using a single light barrier that is suitable for all product lengths, the new askew package detection feature does away with the need for mechanical adjustment of photocells, reducing changeover time. Its product setup memory stores correct parameters for enhanced detection capabilities. The new system has also been reduced in size, and requires no extension of Checkweigher length for integration. The open flap detection unit can be adjusted simply with a hand wheel, and its highly precise mechanical guidance ensures added exactitude.

XS2 Pharma is easily adjustable, allowing manufacturers to tweak weighing requirements and line setups for maximum performance. A clear, 15” colour touchscreen puts all necessary information at the operator's fingertips for easy product changeover. The XS2 Pharma now features an optional digital position indicator with acknowledgement signals to eliminate operator errors during the setup for product changes. The Checkweigher will only allow production to commence when all manual adjustments to belts, sensors and other components have been carried out correctly. This feature now makes it possible for these manual adjustments to be automatically entered into the audit trail and greatly enhances conformity to 21 CFR Part 11.
