USA (SANEPR.com) July 25, 2008 -- “Don’t talk with your mouth full. Say please and thank you. Tell Mary that you are sorry for hurting her feelings. Share.” Do any of these phrases sound familiar? Parents have been teaching their children these concepts for hundreds of years, attempting to instill in their children a sense of what is right, wrong and how to behave. According to Bob Gebelein, author of The Mental Environment: Mostly about Mind Pollution, what many parents don’t realize is that they may be passing down their prejudices and misunderstandings. These prejudices create something that Gebelein likes to call “mind pollution”.
“Mind pollution convinces us to believe things that are not accurate,” says Gebelein. “As influences become internalized, and become part of who we are, it is hard even to see that they are there. So while it may be fun to point the finger at the external influences of advertising and political propaganda, the influences with the real power are the ones that are already inside us.”
The Mental Environment: Mostly about Mind Pollution is the first and only book that examines the mental environment at this level of depth and understanding and has been named a finalist in the 2008 Indie Book Awards for the categories of social change and nature/environment. The book dissects the most important thought influences in our modern culture such as peer pressures and childhood learning of “right” and “wrong.”
“The influences of religion, education and social ties prevents our society from moving forward and creating a new, better civilization based on improved ideas and principles,” says Gebelein,.
BOB GEBELEIN can discuss:
• How parents can teach their children without “mind pollution”
• Religion, education and society—how can we separate fact from fiction
• The ingredients of mind pollution: manipulation, mental warfare, bad logic, status, etc.
• Understanding the use of “accuracy” versus “truth”
• The major influencers of our time: religion, academia and the New Age movement
Bob Gebelein graduated from Harvard University in 1956, with a degree in Mathematics. Gebelein has spent most of his time developing a new civilization and becoming a songwriter.
