Mobile phone demand slumps

According to a news report, universal gross revenues for mobile phones has lessened in the past 3 months because of the economic recession and the holds ups in bringing out new mobile phone conceptions.
Industry research group Gartner Dataquest said 94.4 million mobile phones were sold globally during the July-to-September geological period, down from 103 million in April to June.

The latest Gartner survey shows that of the top five mobile manufacturers, just two - Motorola and Samsung - sold more units between July and September 2001 than during the same period last year.
Despite selling much fewer handsets however, Nokia, the largets mobile phone maker in the world, still managed to hold its position as market leader, augmenting its world sales share by 3.2 percentage points to 33.4%.
Motorola's share of the market also rose, climbing to 15.7% from 13.3% in September 2000.
Unfortunately for Sony Ericsson, their market share came down to 8% from 9.7%, but is expected to recover with a range of new devices next year.
