‘Real’ Is The New ‘Super’, According To Leading Modelling Agency Models Direct

England, UK (SANEPR.com) January 26, 2009 -- The conventional wisdom that skinny models shift units may be have been proved wrong by new research. A recent study conducted by psychologists at the University of Queensland in Australia, found that, when shown two versions of an advertisement, women in the 18 to 25 age bracket were more likely to buy the product after looking at the advertisement featuring a size 12 model, compared to the ad with a size 8 model. This corresponds with the experience of leading modelling agency Models Direct, who say that they have found that more and more often their clients want to find a model who looks like a ‘real person’. According to Models Direct Managing Director Damian O’Connor, more and more brands and agencies are following the lead of big players like Dove, who have moved to using real people as models in their advertising. This means that the demand for different kinds of models has increased. “We’ve always been focused on helping our clients find a model that suits their brief,” says O’Connor. “As the trends in the market change, it is easy for us to keep up with the pace, because we have such wide coverage in terms of ages, ethnicities, gender, and everything else.”

According to O’Connor, Models Direct is ideally placed to meet the needs of agencies who are pushed for time and need to find a model really quickly to fit a particular role. The move towards using models who look like real people, which is now beginning to be backed up by scientific research like the University of Queensland study, also suits Models Direct well. “It’s what we’ve always done best,” says O’Connor.
