(SANEPR.com) June 3, 2009 -- Rupert Young has given his backing to a modelling competition with a difference.
Following his own battle with depression Rupert, twin brother of Pop Idol’s Will Young, set up The Mood Foundation charity to help people combat depressive conditions.
The charity is among those to benefit from UK Glamour Girl of the Year 2009, a national contest and televised documentary, aiming to find women aged 18-68 of all sizes with inner glamour. The winners will feature on a ‘Glam Girls in the Movies’ charity calendar.
Rupert, 30, said: “This is a fantastic event – its ideals are closely aligned with The Mood Foundation. Many of the women taking part have battled adversity and come out happy and achieving; some have suffered domestic violence, depression or come through cancer scares, others have lost up to eight stone and some have lost loved ones to suicide.
“This isn’t your normal modelling competition –many of the entrants have remarkable stories to tell and, no matter what their experiences, they’re all making the best of life now.”
The contest, which has been organised by the modelling information service Alba Model Info, is expected to raise around £1.5million, to be divided between 12 charities. More than 700 women have already signed up and the closing date for entries is midnight on Sunday May 31st.
The Mood Foundation is a national charity which helps fund and arrange therapy for those with depression, anxiety and other forms of mental health conditions.
Rupert, whose own battle with depression and alcohol addiction led him to self-harm, added: “UK Glamour Girl of the Year is a real opportunity to inspire people to turn their lives around.”
Other charities to benefit from the contest include Round Table Children’s Wish, Macmillan Cancer Support, Motor Neuron Disease support, male cancer charity Mrtesticles.com, Stroke Care, the National Aids Trust, Anxiety UK, Unique Social Enterprise CIC, International Otter Survival Fund, The Marine Connection and Cri Du Chat Syndrome Support Group.
