Same-Sex Wedding Expo to Kick Off New Legislation in Connecticut

Asheville, NC, USA (SANEPR.com) November 24, 2008 -- - RainbowWeddingNetwork.com celebrates the October 10th ruling in Connecticut, adding a new event to its 2008 calendar focused on supporting same-sex couples throughout the state as they plan for their weddings. Over forty local wedding vendors will participate in the upcoming Same Love, Same Rights® LGBTQ Wedding Expo, who actively support equal rights in marriage. Other highlights will include Planning Tips and Trends, Samples and Informative Presentations about the issues concerning equality in marriage and adoption for the LGBTQ community in Connecticut and throughout America. Admission is free, and all supporters of non-discrimination are encouraged to attend.

“This ruling in Connecticut will have implications all across the country,” says Marianne Puechl, co-owner of RainbowWeddingNetwork.com. “In coming forward to say that ‘civil unions’ are not acceptable in comparison to the full rights and responsibilities of legal marriage, the Connecticut Supreme Court has denounced the idea of ‘separate but equal’ with regard to the LGBTQ minority in our country.” Puechl has worked on behalf of the gay and lesbian community for over ten years and launched RainbowWeddingNetwork.com with her partner Cindy Sproul in 2000. Puechl continues, "The topic of marriage rights is such a hot-button issue, more states than ever (including California in November) are considering legislation banning same-sex partnerships. We all need to work together, the gay and lesbian community as well as our allies, to enact lasting change in the arena of Tolerance.”

Expo attendees on December 7th will have the chance to mingle with dozens of gay-friendly wedding professionals, as well as those in the travel, gift and home-planning industries, such as realtors, lawyers and adoption agencies. Married & engaged guests will also be invited to add a photograph to the Commitment Photo Album,™ an ongoing project to document LGBTQ couples and their families throughout the nation.
