Grandview, Ohio, USA. (SANEPR.com) July 31, 2007 -- Dateline: There will be a silent auction, during a scheduled gallery opening, of the full color version of the historic 1994 first published photograph of an invisibility test, using a full scale replica of the Santa Maria as a target. It originally appeared in black and white in the July 1994 issue of Purpose Magazine. Achieved by researcher and R&D engineer Marshall Barnes, it is startling proof that the honors of the "first demonstration of a working invisibility cloak" were established more than a decade ago and do not belong to researchers at Duke University, as the media has sometimes accredited them ( see http://www.gizmag.com/go/6357/ ).
The photo is from a series that Marshall created by aiming the camera through a material that he discovered that causes solid objects to appear transparent and sometimes 95% to 99% invisible. Other photos and video from that series have appeared as far away as Russia and on TV news programs in the U.S. and Canada, as well as on Danny Bonoduce's former talk show, Danny!
In 1996, Marshall presented his research in a colloquium sponsored by the Biological and Physical Sciences Department of Columbus State Community College, only one of many times that he has presented his research in a public forum. Most recently it was at the MarCon science fiction convention, over Memorial Day weekend, during a presentation on advanced concept research that he is involved in. Among those in attendance was well known time travel physicist and author of the book, Time Traveler: A Scientist's Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality, Dr. Ronald Mallett of the University of Connecticut http://www.physics.uconn.edu/~mallett/main/book.htm . Marshall has begun to develop practical applications for his research, and there is a DVD and TV special in the works that will feature the story behind his invisibility breakthrough.
Autographed by Marshall, and authenticated with a reproduction of the cover of the magazine issue and title page of the article that it appeared in, this photo display will gain in value over time as it has already been recognized internationally and is an extension of the new invisibility exhibit being installed at the Santa Maria Visitor/Education Center in downtown Columbus, OH, due to get international exposure this fall http://www.i-newswire.com/pr106940.html
The auction will begin during the gallery opening, at the Getaway Gallery, Sunday August 5th, 2:30 - 7:00 PM, 1421 W. Third Ave. Columbus, OH 43212. Call 614 487-9413 for more info.
