About GSAF 2010:
The highlight for GSAF 2010 was a theme park depicting ‘wildlife conservation’. Around 3 days prior to the main festival, the students and the artists from Mumbai, Pune and Goa began work on their creations, creating a unique theme park with different endangered species made completely out of sand. The festival was inaugurated by Minister of Tourism, Shri Nilkant Halarnkar, Swapnil Naik, Director of Tourism and MLA, Agnelo Fernandes (Congress). One of the world’s master sculptors from UK, The Sandwizard, Simon Smith graced the festival by his presence. Before the main festival, a preview was held over the weekend and some weekdays at Various Malls in Mumbai which attracted a huge crowd, old and young alike. The Preview of Goa Sand Art Festival 2010 was something new and a rear sight in a city like Mumbai.
About GSAF 2009:
The Goa Sand Art Festival 2009 was the year of its inception. The theme for 2009 was ‘Global Warming’ which was conveyed through six different sand sculptures. Each sand sculpture was like a campaign which highlighted the theme. The main attraction of Goa Sand Art Festival 2009 was a sculpture of ‘Mother Earth’ which was beautifully sculpted by the entire team. The sculpture of ‘Mother Earth’ was an 18 feet long pregnant woman lying on the beach holding her belly with both her hands. Her belly symbolized our planet which needs the same attention and care. Apart from these artists, there were many children and tourists who also participated in the festival by unleashing their talent on the practice pits. The three day festival attracted many passer- bys and tourists. Many also came with their family especially children to see the festival.
