Space Drinks To Quench the Curious

Los Angeles, California, USA. (SANEPR.com) October 16, 2007 -- Microgravity Enterprises, Inc. (MEI), a California Space Authority (CSA) member, will showcase space drinks designed to quench the thirst of the curious during the Transforming Space 2007 Conference in Los Angeles in November. The novel drinks include bottled water called Space2O™, and an energy drink called Antimatter™. MEI also makes the world’s first space beer called Comet’s Tail™ Amber Ale which is currently only available at Kelly’s Brew Pub in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“We are just beginning,” said Darryl Hupfer, MEI Vice President of Sales and Marketing, “Our goal is to produce and manufacture a broad range of unique products in the microgravity environment of space and then bring them back for sale in the consumer market. Our association with CSA will be critical to achieving this goal.

“When people try our Space2O™, Antimatter™, and Comet’s Tail™ Amber Ale,” said Linda Strine, MEI Executive Vice President, “they will be surprised at how good they taste. For example, Antimatter™ has never lost a blind taste with other popular energy drinks. Our requirement was to create a superior line of products that also captures the soul of space development and exploration.”

MEI fortifies their space drinks with ingredients flown in space. Their first flight was in April 2007, on UP Aerospace's SpaceLoft-2 (SL-2) rocket, which was followed in June 2007 by a second flight. These two successful flights have provided MEI with nearly a full year of space-flown ingredients for beverage production.

“They are an innovative company,” noted CSA Executive Director Andrea Seastrand. “We are proud to share their drinks at Transforming Space 2007.”

In August, Microgravity Enterprises, Inc. and the California Space Authority entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will ultimately provide access to space for educational payloads involving California students grades K-12. CSA has already distributed Space2O™ at the recent Endeavour Space Shuttle launch in August celebrating the involvement of two California astronauts onboard—Barbara Morgan and Dr. Tracy Caldwell.
