Turning “Green” into a Teen Movement

Relate will host a month-long campaign to showcase teens going green. From October 26 to November 26, 2009, Relate invites teens from around the country to share how they are going green. Whether it’s a club at school, recycling old soda cans or making a necklace out of recycled products, Relate wants to know and spread the word!
Recently, Relate switched from a print publication to a digital format, allowing for all teens to read and interact with the future issues of Relate from their personal computer. This transition was two-fold: to be a greater part of the teen lifestyle and to understand that teens were a huge part of such an important movement.
So many traditional outlets of media are turning towards a digital format, but it might not be for the reason assumed. Yes, technology is growing, evolving and creating an easier connection between media and audience. However one target demographic is embracing this digital age from a “green” point of view: teens. And Relate Magazine, a teen girl publication, understands the importance.
“Teens today seem to have the greatest understanding of the impact of going green. Teens all over the country are doing what they can as individuals, so why wouldn't Relate join in and do our part as well? Publishing in a digital format instead of in print was the most effective thing we could do to support the green movement and we know teens will understand and embrace this change.” Mary Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of Relate Magazine
It doesn’t end with Relate. Sites such as TeensTurningGreen.org and GreenTeensUSA.org strive to inform and encourage “green” behavior among today’s youth.
