USA (SANEPR.com) June 19, 2008 -- TheClassicalStation.org announced today General Manager Deborah S. Proctor has been elected to the board of directors of the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters (NCAB). Proctor will serve as an affiliate director and will be responsible for representing the interests of non-commercial radio and TV members of the NCAB.

“Deborah is an extraordinarily knowledgeable and creative broadcaster, and the state’s broadcast industry is looking forward to her good counsel on the trade association’s board of directors,” said Wade Hargrove, general counsel and executive director to NCAB. “We are excited that she is joining the board.”

Proctor is a founder of WCPE 89.7 FM, TheClassicalStation.org. In the past 30 years, she has served as a representative for public radio interests with the U.S. Congress and the N.C. Department of Administration Division of Public Telecommunications Public Radio Advisory Committee. In addition, Proctor has been an active member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers since 1988, and is a founding member and current president of the North Carolina Public Radio Association.

“The NCAB and its members have done so much to protect and serve the interests of North Carolina broadcasters,” said Proctor. “I’m honored to serve alongside my peers on the board.”

NCAB is widely recognized as one of the top associations for broadcasters in the nation in terms of legislative victories, education, services, benefits and legal assistance. NCAB members are offered seminars to help strengthen their management skills by addressing topics such as advertising law, political broadcasting, license renewal, broadcast sales, First Amendment and news gathering law, media law and employment. Members also have access to the Alternative FCC Inspection Program, Legal Hotline and Legal Reviews, among many other benefits.

About WCPE:
With a 30-year history, WCPE is a non-commercial, 100 percent listener-supported, independent station dedicated to excellence in Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day. Community-minded business underwriters and foundations are among the 150,000 listeners in the North Carolina broadcast area. General Manager Deborah S. Proctor’s leadership has enabled the WCPE community to include national and worldwide listeners. Other radio stations and cable television systems can rebroadcast Great Classical Music, 24 Hours A Day. WCPE is one of the first public broadcasters to stream on the Internet. WCPE is heard worldwide on the Internet in multiple formats, including the next generation IPv6. Because WCPE receives no tax-derived support, the station conducts two on-air fundraising campaigns and two major mail-out campaigns per year to raise needed operating funds. Quarter Notes, the WCPE Program Guide, is published four times a year as a means to enhance appreciation and understanding of classical music. It is distributed to station supporters and is also available online at TheClassicalStation.org/guide. For more information, visit TheClassicalStation.Org or call 1-800-556-5178.
