WAKE FOREST, N.C., USA (SANEPR.com) December 20, 2007 -- WCPE announces that its winter program guide, Quarter Notes, features CD reviews by Preview! announcers Deana Vassar and Paul Jordan. The recent releases by Quatuor Mosaiques’ and Leif Ove Andsnes’ are critiqued.

In Quarter Notes,Vassar reviews Andsnes’ “Ballad For Edvard Grieg” and Jordan reviews Mosaiques’ “Beethoven”. Both offer praise. Mosaiques is applauded for the use of historic period instruments in the string quartet’s performance of Beethoven’s “Opus 18 nos. 2&3.” Andsnes is complimented for styling that holds true to Grieg’s emotional writing.

“The sound Mosaiques achieves is definitely seductive in its sonic quality,” says Jordan. “Not being a professional musician or musicologist, it is difficult to explain the total effect of the sound of these classic instruments.”

Vassar and Jordan’s remarks are featured in the “Lately We’ve Heard” section of the program guide. This section of Quarter Notes reviews recent CD releases from celebrated classical composers, conductors and performers.

Community-minded business underwriters and foundations are among the 150,000 listeners in the North Carolina broadcast area. General Manager Deborah S. Proctor’s leadership has enabled the WCPE community to include national and worldwide listeners. Other radio stations and cable television systems can rebroadcast Great Classical Music, 24 Hours a Day. WCPE is one of the first public broadcasters to stream on the Internet. Quarter Notes, the WCPE Program Guide, is published four times a year as a means to enhance appreciation and understanding of classical music. It is distributed to station supporters and is also available online at TheClassicalStation.org/guide. For more information, visit TheClassicalStation.Org or call 1-800-556-5178.
