USA (SANEPR.com) May 19, 2008 -- Fourteen months after the deadliest pet food recall in history, the FDA held its Pet Food Safety Meeting. While it was a public meeting, anyone who could not attend was forced to pay $140.00 to view the meeting webcast. Susan Thixton of TruthAboutPetFood.com didn’t agree with the charge for a public meeting, but purchased the webcast, video taped it, and it now providing the full meeting video on her website.

March of 2007 started the world’s largest and deadliest pet food recall. Pet owners have been waiting nervously for the FDA Pet Food Safety meeting, hopeful to learn of new regulations that protect pet food. The first notice that a pet food safety meeting was to be held was announced in January 2008. The date was finally set in April and the meeting took place Tuesday May 13, 2008.

Susan Thixton of TruthAboutPetFood.com felt every U.S. pet owner deserved to know what the FDA meeting discussed. With video camera on – she taped the entire meeting and has posted all the video segments on her website and YouTube. “It was unbelievable to me that the FDA charged $140.00 for one viewer to watch a public meeting. I feel every pet owner has the right to see what plans the FDA has for pet food, and with that knowledge they can better protect their pet” says Thixton. Unfortunately Thixton states that the FDA meeting was a big let down. Scheduled to begin at 8 AM and end at 4:30 PM – it began at 8:40 and ended promptly at 10:50 AM. “And that was with a 30 minute break in the middle” says Thixton. The FDA Pet Food Safety Meeting lasted only 90 minutes. A $26 Billion dollar a year industry that impacts over 60% of U.S. households – the FDA pet food safety meeting only provided one speaker that had much to say according to Thixton. “Mike Floyd of Defend Our Pets spoke at the meeting and his segment was fantastic. All we can hope for is that the FDA listens to his wise words of advice.”
