Web hosting company leads charge in the realm of IT environmental sustainability

USA (SANEPR.com) April 14, 2009 -- Texas - Houston-based green web hosting company, BounceWeb, took another step towards offsetting its carbon footprint by supporting the production of 6,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy through a Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) purchase.

Last month's REC purchase by BounceWeb is the equivalent of the small company eliminating 9,414 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions from our atmosphere.

Some estimates peg the global environmental impact of the IT industry at between 3 and 4 per cent of the world's electricity usage indicating a massive environmental toll for the industry. "If more companies like ours got behind this type of initiative, a lot of good would come of it," said Willit.
