MILLVILLE, NJ, December 6, 2011 - HowtoCoach.biz has launched an innovative brand new internet site created to help coaches worldwide share tips and also resources in an effort to better comprehend the position of the sports coach in affecting the players they advise. The How to Coach site, launched December 4, 2011, was developed and designed by Gerald Covella, chief executive of Digital Analytics Group. A journalist and longtime coach on the youth and high school levels, Covella spotted the demand for a site that would allow coaches to have interaction and share ideas on the many issues they face each day.
“We look at the How to Coach site as an online coaching institute,” said Covella, “a location where coaches can search for resources and ideas in their respective sports and, through this process, help them build programs that demonstrate to athletes the value and beauty of athletic competition.
“Whether it’s looking for better ways on how to coach basketball or how to coach soccer … or whether you are a football coach or swimming coach, the website was created to be a community forum for open, sincere discussion between all coaches,” he added.
As a young journalist, Covella was a sports writer and after that advanced to the position of sports editor for Gannett, one of the world’s largest newspaper companies. It was his experiences during those years that formed his concepts about sports coaching.
“I had the opportunity to meet literally hundreds of coaches, some who directed local youth and high school teams and other coaches who were entrusted with overseeing college and professional teams,” said Covella. “It was intriguing to sit and chat about their coaching philosophies.”
Now, with the launch of howtocoach.biz, Covella hopes to recreate the same type of honest conversation and interaction between coaches through all the sport-specific forums on the website.
“I wasn’t the first coach to come along and realize there are many tough issues to address,” said Covella of a coach’s role as mentor, “and I won’t be the last. With the additional pressures and responsibilities affecting athletes today, it’s important that coaches know they have a place to share their concerns, a place where they can find the answer to their questions.”
According to the site’s director, the key is for sports coaches to make use of the website, particularly the forums that have been created as a way to build the online community.
In addition, coaches can use the internet site to post bulletins about their team and league, such as schedules, special events, tryouts … anything related to the duties of a sports coach.
“We are on the ground floor, but we are confident once coaches start using the site they will find the value of sharing their ideas on how to coach with others who share their passion for athletics,” he said.
