(SANEPR.com) May 11, 2009 -- New York,New York(SANEPR)05/06/2009,The original artwork of Wendy Cohen, will be on view at Agora Gallery, 530 West 25th Street, from May 7 through May 27. (Opening Reception Thursday May 7, from 6 to 8pm.)
About the Artist:
Bursting with brilliant colors, spirited lines and energetic movement, the paintings of Wendy Cohen express the artist’s jubilant zest for life and enthusiasm for the art-making process. She works with a variety of mixed media, producing surfaces that are thickly textured and multi-layered as a result of exciting brushtrokes and sgriffito techniques. Using imagery derived from her imagination, Cohen’s works can be viewed in the same manner in which they are conceived, by surrendering the logical mind to the infinite realm of the imagination. As the artist drifts through her own meandering thoughts, she develops abstracted images of exuberant beauty, which express above all that life should be a pleasure, not a task. Consequently, the unique experience of viewing one of Cohen’s optimistic creations is one of true joy. By surrendering our serious and frequently perplexing thoughts to the creative, playful and sometimes even comical visions set forth by Wendy Cohen, we experience an often under-exposed side of art: the bright side.
Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Wendy Cohen lives and works in Australia and has exhibited her work in and around Sydney since 2005.
