CANANDAIGUA, NY, USA (SANEPR.com) February 4, 2008 -- When Wick-edly Sent decided to go green they discovered that some of the steps were already in place. Running a daily business with so many earth friendly customers make it all the more easy to accede simple ways of going green and living with more of a purpose.
"It's an important decision, but once you make a commitment, it's easy to do," Don Stevens says, co-owner of the company. Known for making scentd soy candles and scented soaps made of olive oil, for retail and wholesale businesses. Some of the ways they are going green are:
1. They recycle office toner cartridges and computer equipment.
2. They do not test on any animals, only friends (humans).
3. They recycle our candle jars.
4. They recycle newspapers and/or paper products.
5. All of their gift boxes are made from recycled paper.
6. All shopping bags are made with recycled paper.
7. They recycle shipping materials and our cardboard.
8. They use a soy base wax for their jar candles and palm wax for pillars (both natural resources).
9. They email customer invoices to reduce paper waste.
10. They avoid petroleum, formaldehyde, and/or harmful agents in their natural bath and body products.
11. They use green friendly cleaning products.
12. They have awnings on windows to reduce building temperatures.
13. They do not water our lawn.
14. They use energy saving methods of lighting, cooling, heating.
15. They opt to walk as much as possible instead of using vehicles.
16. They buy local: farmer's market, higher quality, buying local saves energy buy reducing fossil fuels needed to transport food and other items. Plus, it helps your local economy.
17. Most of their displays are repurposed furniture.
18. They prefer vendors and suppliers who are also going green.
Going green is now more popular than ever, and they encourage others to do so too. But never forget the purpose: One World, One People, One Earth.
Ways they tell others to go green: customers bring back old candle jars to them to re-fill with another scented candle from their line. They encourage others to walk, bike, or carpool, as much as possible (a great way to keep fit too). Shop local (see #16). Skip the bottled water, filter your tap water for drinking rather than using bottled water, which produces large amounts of waste. Recycle as much as possible, and teach the next generation to do the same. This is an important step to going green, so many youngsters are eager to learn.
