Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. Announces Committee Appointments for Water Resources Staff

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.; June 9, 2011 – Williamsburg Environmental Group, Inc. (WEG), a local environmental consulting and engineering firm, is pleased to announce several recent appointments for their water resources engineering staff. Through these appointments, WEG staffers offer their specialized environmental engineering expertise to help benefit these worthwhile organizations’ goals. “At WEG, supporting the communities where we live and work is part of our corporate mission,” said Ron Boyd, President and co-founder of WEG, “and serving on state and local committees and boards is a great way for us be active, involved, and give back to our local areas.”

Scott Blossom, P.E., C.F.M., LEED A.P. was appointed to the James River Green Building Council (JRGBC) Board of Directors. As a member of the board, he will assist in the development of guidelines for sustainable cities and communities and help the chapter pursue opportunities for restoration and regeneration in the built environment. The JRGBC chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council covers the central Virginia area and was established in 2004 with a mission to create a positive impact on the region’s built environment by accelerating the adoption of green building practices, technologies, policies, and standards. Their vision is that buildings and communities should regenerate and sustain the health and vitality of all life within a generation. Mr. Blossom is a Senior Water Resources Engineer in WEG’s Williamsburg office and has over ten years of experience in water resources engineering with an emphasis on Low Impact Development, green building practices, watershed analysis, and stormwater planning and design.

Chris Kuhn was selected to serve on the Virginia Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMP) Clearinghouse Committee. As a member of the committee, he will provide expertise in stormwater management, specifically to help the committee establish BMP pollutant removal efficiencies and effectiveness rating for Virginia, and assign confidence levels on claims regarding pollutant removal efficiencies. The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Virginia Water Resources Research Center have partnered together to develop a web-based stormwater BMP clearinghouse. The purpose of the clearinghouse is to provide easily accessible and up-to-date information to planners, designers, developers, and regulators about effectiveness and efficiency of stormwater BMPs. Mr. Kuhn is a Senior Project Manager in WEG’s Williamsburg office has more than 23 years of experience in the fields of civil and environmental engineering, stormwater management, and surface water quality management.

Doug Beisch, Jr., P.E. was appointed to the Nutrient Credit Exchange Study Committee. As a member of the committee, he will provide expertise to help study and develop recommendations relating to the creation of a comprehensive Chesapeake Bay Watershed Nutrient Exchange Program that operates effectively to include both point and nonpoint source pollutants. The Chesapeake Bay Watershed Nutrient Credit Exchange Program was created through Senate Joint Resolution (No 334) in which the Secretary of Natural Resources was requested to form a stakeholder committee comprised of representatives having relevant knowledge, perspective, or experience on Chesapeake Bay Watershed Nutrient issues. Mr. Beisch is a Senior Water Resources Engineer and Water Resources Program Manager in WEG’s Williamsburg and Richmond, Virginia offices. He has more than 16 years of experience in the fields of stormwater management and surface water quality management. Mr. Beisch has experience assisting local program staff with policy interpretations and stormwater program administration. He has developed technical criteria for the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act implementation, and provided statewide guidance related to stormwater management and water quality management.
