Dallas, Tx – March 2, 2010 – “Windbrella.” While this term may sound funny, and may be a term that many people have never heard or used before, it is becoming increasingly popular. With the recent thunderstorms that have occurred across the country (and those to come), winbrellas may prove to be a much more reliant source of “shielding” from the rain, than a regular umbrella.
A “windbrella” is, for the most part, an umbrella that was designed to endure heavy winds. They are the types of umbrellas that are usually seen in patio furniture sets, and on beaches. Now, handheld windbrellas are being made available, and are becoming increasingly popular.
“Out of the estimated 100,000 thunderstorms that occur in the U.S. each year, only 10 percent become sever, but account for most of the damage and loss of life (USA Today).” This means that every year, in the U.S. there are 10,000 severe thunderstorms. A thunderstorm is considered severe when it’s winds are blowing at a speed of 57.5 miles per hour, or more.
In an interview, a spokesperson from windbrellas.com said, “I believe it’s a fad that’s going to catch on pretty well. If you’ve ever seen a windbrella, then you know what I mean. Because they are so well designed, they tend to look much better than regular umbrellas.” “They are very fashionable, that’s what drove me to purchase one. That, and the fact that I’ll no longer have to worry about my umbrella breaking or bending in the wind,” said a customer of windbrellas.com.
Will windbrellas be what most people are looking for this year, to replace their old umbrellas? Well, that remains to be seen. However, with the benefits they offer over regular umbrellas, it will be hard for them not to.
